佛教雖有八萬四千法門,門門皆可進入佛的境地,但歸根究底,必先修止心一門。六妙門:
一、「數」為「妙門」
二、「隨」為「妙門」
三、「止」為「妙門」
四、「觀」為「妙門」
五、「還」為「妙門」
六、「淨」為「妙門」
第三是「止」。行者如修習止門,則能次第生出五輪三昧。所謂:方便有多門,歸元無二路,若人能止心一處,五輪三昧便可任運無礙,如靜水無波,則森羅萬象自然呈現了。
所謂五輪者:(一)地輪(二)水輪(三)風輪(四)金沙輪(五)金剛輪。 此五種法門=皆是借譬喻而立名。
梵語「斫羯羅」中文翻譯為輪。輪是車輪,如車輪上之轂輞輻等「諸相圓滿具足」。其義乃表諸佛如來之真實功德,圓滿具足,無欠無缺,猶如輪之圓整。
「輪」又表轉法輪之意。世尊最初成道在鹿野苑度五比丘時,初轉法輪,次轉法輪以勸修…,後轉法輪引領證悟。經過三次轉法輪,(苦集滅道)之四諦法輪,彼等乃得開悟。故世尊示現開悟眾生,又名轉法輪。

Although there are 84,000 approaches in Buddhism and each of them can bring one to the Buddha realm, to sum up, one must first practice the approach of pause (ignoring breath), which is one of the following Six Wondrous Approaches:
1.counting breath
2.following breath
3.ignoring breath
4.observing breath
5.returning to origin
6.practicing purification
If a practitioner can practice the third one, then he will be able to give rise to the Five Wheel Samadhi.

There are many expedient approaches, but there’s only one to return to the origin. If practitioners can pause the mind, the Five Wheel Samadhi will be freely operated like still water without ripples. Then every manifestation of nature will be seen.

The Five Wheels are Earth Wheel, Water Wheel, Wind Wheel, Golden Sand Wheel, and Diamond Wheel. They are named with similes.

The Sanskrit “velācakra” is translated into “wheel” in Chinese, meaning vehicle wheel here. There are a hub, a spoke, and a band on the wheel, so it represents all the perfect and replete forms. Also it indicates the real, perfect, replete and whole merits of Buddhas that are as round and complete as a wheel.

The “wheel” here also has the meaning of “turning the dharma wheel.” When Sakyamuni Buddha just attained the ultimate truth and transformed the five bhiksus in Sarnath, he turned the dharma wheel the first time. Then he turned the second time to persuade others to cultivate. Then he did it the third time to guide others to get confirmation and enlightenment. After turning the dharma wheel for three times, he made them enlightened. So when Sakyamuni Buddha manifests to enlighten sentient beings, it’s also called “turn dharma wheels.”
