The Mind Is the Quickest Painter

There is a verse in The Mahāvaipulya Buddhāvataṃsaka Sūtra that goes:

The mind is like a painter who can paint various worlds.
The Five Skandhas all arise from there,
And all dharmas are created from it.
What is called the mind is also a Buddha,
And what is called a Buddha is also a sentient being.
It should be noticed that both the Buddha and the mind possess inexhaustible essential nature.
If a person knows the formations of the mind that creates everything in the universe,
He will see the Buddha and realize the Buddha’s true nature.
If a person’s mind does not abide in his body,
And his body does not abide in his mind,
And if he can be involved with the Buddha’s undertakings,
Then he will feel unprecedentedly unrestrained.
If a person wants to know all the Buddhas of the three periods,
He should observe the nature of the dharma realm.
Everything is created by the mind.

To cultivate is to correct one’s own concept and behavior first. In terms of causes and conditions, our efforts will not be made in vain. On the Bodhi path, we should practice diligently, tolerate what cannot be tolerated, and do what cannot be done.

I hope that every one of you can often light up the lamp of wisdom which will universally shine in the dharma realm, give rise to a joyful heart which will make people who see you happy, and get rid of the three hindrances. Also, we should comply with and be pleased with all the roots of goodness that will be given to sentient beings, perfect the Buddha Bodhi, and reach the supreme goal together.

Namo Mahāvaipulya Buddhāvataṃsaka Sūtra, all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas at the Hua Yen Sea Assembly!

Virtue and auspiciousness to you all.
