The Soul Engineering—VII

參禪行者,先明禪旨、再曉參情。諸佛與眾生,只差隔一個妄想。「有」一個心,即成眾生,「離」心成諸佛。

禪,在佛與眾生之間。參禪未悟者,處眾生界;禪關悟破,晴空無雲、性海朗淨,成諸佛界。 

參禪,為參 「定」與「亂」間的一層薄紗、「迷」與「悟」之間的一毫塵滓。禪,為苦海慈舟、為行者病之妙藥。禪修行者,為了生死之大法、為滅貪瞋痴暗,二六時中,精進不懈。禪,長養僧,清淨也。禪,說塵沙法;迷者成眾生,悟者成諸佛。

十方法界、虛空界,乃至大地中森羅萬象,住此禪中,人若能聞禪、修禪、悟禪、說禪,皆累聚佛之種性。故經云: 一稱南無佛,皆共成佛道。

Practitioners of Zen meditation should know the gist of Zen first and then know the status of it next.  The difference between Buddhas and sentient beings is whether they have wishful thinking or not.  Those with such a mind will be sentient beings, and those without it will be Buddhas.

Zen exists between Buddhas and sentient beings.  Those who practice Zen meditation but cannot realize Zen will enter the realm of sentient beings.  Those who realize it will be like the clear and boundless sky and will have a clear and clean sea of nature, and thus will enter the realm of Buddhas.

To practice Zen meditation is to realize the small difference between stability and chaos as well as the tiny difference between delusion and enlightenment.  Zen serves as a loving boat in the sea and the medicine for the sickness of practitioners who are diligent day and night in order to know the great dharma about life and death and to extinguish greed, hatred, and stupidity. 

Zen can nurture the sangha and is pure.  It deals with the dharma about impurity and chaos. Those who are deluded will become sentient beings and those who are enlightened will become Buddhas. 

Zen exists in the dharma realms of the Ten Directions, the Void, and even all phenomena in the universe.  If people can hear it, cultivate it, realize it and talk about it, they will all accumulate the Buddha nature.  So it is said in the sutra that those who chant the name of Amitabha Buddha once will attain Buddhahood together.
