The Soul Engineering—XII

The Soul Engineering—XII

Bodhisattvas Mahasattvas believe in goodness first and respect Buddhas next in this world.  If those who grow between Heaven and Earth cannot endure sufferings, they will have no blessings.  Without blessings, people will not attain Buddhahood.  Without wisdom, people cannot rescue sentient beings.

Those who vow to cultivate should work on the cultivation of blessings and wisdom realistically.  With the cause of blessings and seeds of wisdom, they will be able to get into the undertaking of attaining Buddhahood and transforming living beings.  In order to achieve the Six Paramitas, Bodhisattvas cultivate six matters.  So the term Achievements of Six Matters came into being.  They are as follows:

(1)   The Achievement of Offering:  This is the achievement of the paramita of almsgiving.  If Bodhidsattvas do not make long-term offerings to the Three Jewels, the paramita of almsgiving won’t be consummate.

(2)   The Achievement of Learning Precepts:  This is the achievement of the paramita of precepts.  If Bodhisattvas do not learn precepts for a long time, the paramita of precepts won’t be consummate.

(3)   The Achievement of Cultivating Compassion:  This is the achievement of the paramita of tolerance.  Bodhisattvas should cultivate the great compassion to benefit sentient beings, or the paramita of tolerance won’t be consummate.

(4)   The Achievement of the Exhortation of Goodness:  This is the achievement of diligence.  Bodhisattvas should cultivate the goodness of various kinds, or the paramita of diligence won’t be consummate.

(5)   The Achievement of Retreat:  This is the achievement of Samadhi.  If Bodhisattvas cultivate mostly in towns, their minds will be disturbed and the Samadhi won’t be consummate.

(6)   The Achievement of Loving Dharma:  This is the achievement of the paramita of wisdom.  Bodhisattvas should love the Buddhist Dharma, meet Buddhas, and listen to the Dharma without feeling bored like the sea that admits river waters and is always full.  Otherwise, the paramita of wisdom won’t be consummate.

If Buddhist disciples can learn diligently without idling, they will give rise to the treasure of brightness from their own minds, brighten their mind grounds, and accomplish great jobs.  If a real spiritual practitioner cultivates diligently in order to achieve the Buddhas’ undertaking, he will be guided by Buddhas and Bodhisattvas and attain Buddhahood.

If Bodhisattvas want to make accomplishments, they should cultivate and get enlightened realistically and should be broad-minded as the model for both humans and heavenly beings.  This is the real meaning of the Bodhisattvas’ real achievement of the Six Paramitas.
