When the Karmic Disease Comes
地藏經•第六品上說：「有的人在臨命終前，因生病很久，病痛嚴重，求生不能、求死不得。有時會夢見家裹親人，或時常夢見惡鬼諸形，有時種種呼喊、惡夢連連，諸般痛苦不堪。」
有時會發覺被壓著動彈不得、被驚嚇、慌恐、懼怕，每每受到恐懼境界而痛哭！時日一久，身體變得很虛弱，病情更加嚴重，徹夜難安眠，呼喊連連，痛苦難堪！這都是過去惡業所造成，屢結諸怨懟所致，雖已病重，卻很難捨去世壽，而安詳往生。
身所染疾病很難痊癒，如此諸類，我們應為他唸誦地藏王菩薩聖號，並且廣造福事，迴向給病者及怨業所結之冤家，以求化解諸纏。若能恭誦地藏菩薩本願功德經，代病者懇切懺悔和發願，堅固心念，一心持念佛名。祈求早消業病，早恢復健康。

When the Karmic Disease Comes
Chapter Six of the Earth Treasure Sutra goes, “Some people, due to long sickness, feel extremely painful before passing away. They can neither live nor die. Sometimes they dream of their family members. Oftentimes they dream of evil ghosts in different forms. At times they yell in continuous nightmares. So many kinds of sufferings are too painful to tolerate.”
Once in a while they may feel pressed, unable to move, terrified, and then cry. After a long while, they become very weak and more seriously ill. Unable to sleep for the whole night, they keep yelling, which is too painful to endure. All these are caused by the bad karmas of the past and accumulated rancor. Though they are seriously ill, it is hard for them to terminate their lives and die peacefully.
Facing cases like this (diseases that are hard to cure), we should recite the sacred name of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva for them and widely do blessing deeds for the patients as well as their foes in order to dissolve entanglement. Also we can recite the Earth Treasure Sutra, repent and make vows in place of the sick ones. Moreover, we can pray for the Karmic diseases of the sick ones to disappear soon by consolidating our thoughts and being mindful of the Buddha attentively.
