Know What You Are Cultivating

Know What You Are Cultivating
Karma has three meanings: thinking, making, and acting. The self-nature of karma is unreal phenomena. In Buddhism there is so called “When affinities arise, the nature is empty.” The three karmas made from the body are killing, stealing, and sexual misconduct. The four karmas made from the mouth are false language, flowery speech, lies, and evil talk. The three karmas created from the thought are greed, anger, and ignorance.
In terms of characteristics, karma can be divided into good karma, bad karma, and the karma that cannot be distinguished. The activity of karma is the continuous reincarnations. The form dharma arises from close affinities and helping affinities. The mind dharma arises from causal affinities, continuous affinities, object affinities, and helping affinities.
How can people who sinned seriously be punished lightly? Those with heavy karma can receive light punishment and those with light karma can make it disappear through the cultivation of the body, the admonitions, the mind, and wisdom.
In addition, we should know the difference between the mutual karma and the individual karma. If the karma we create influences each other, is intimately related between each other, and makes everybody receive the retributions, then such karma is called the mutual karma. If the karma we create influences the creators only and only the creators receive the retributions, then it is called the individual karma.
During the sad-dharma era, the problems of schoolwork, occupation, marriage and interpersonal relationship can be solved one after another through cultivation. All these have to be solved by abiding by wisdom. Not only Bodhisattvas cultivate by relying on prajna, but also the Buddhas in the three periods attain anuttara-samyak-sambodhi by relying on prajna.
The Buddhas in the Ten Directions practice the Bodhisattva Path and never change their initial aspirations from the time they first make up their Bodhi minds to the days they finally attain Buddhahood.
Let’s encourage each other on the Bodhi-path of cultivation.
