Where is the Pure Land?
Everybody yearns for the Pure Land, but what is the Pure Land, and where is it? Is it in the world of the living, or in the Heaven? Is it the future world in our imagination, or the ideal state in our hearts? Where is such a world?
If it is in one’s heart, then dig the heart out! But it still cannot be found. The Pure Land is omnipresent, but cannot be seen, because the human mind has set limitations. Oftentimes various kinds of solemn pure lands will manifest because people are enlightened.
Maybe you are now in the Self-Benefiting Land, in your own inner world, or in the world illuminated by the Great Perfect Mirror Wisdom. Maybe you are now in the Self-Benefiting Land accomplished by the Equal Wisdom and see everyone living in this most beautiful Pure Land of the world, although others may not think of it as a Pure Land. All living beings and I are living in this Pure Land together, so I wish that all of them would gain the magnificent roots of goodness and reach the opposite shore of Dharmas.
As a matter of fact, if everyone can mark what he has perceived on the outer situations, and see people from the inner pure perception, all will be like living in the Pure Land. If one can turn towards an object with a pure, impartial mind and cultivate in every movement, then this will be an Other-Benefiting Land accomplished by the Equal Nature Wisdom.
The Pure Act Chapter of the Flower Adornment Sutra says:
When I am reciting the sutra, I wish that sentient beings would follow what the Buddha said, abide by all the teachings and would not forget them.
If I could see the Buddha, I wish that all sentient beings would gain the Eye without Hindrance and see all Buddhas.
When I look at the Buddha carefully, I wish that all sentient beings are like Samantabhadra who has an upright and magnificent appearance.
